Chelsea in talks with Newcastle over multiple stars including former player

Chelsea have several areas of the team to fix this summer.

Pretty much every position needs reinforncing, and even more so if Marc Cucurella leaves. The left-back is heavily linked with a transfer to Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

Should the 27-year-old move on in search of European football — something the Blues failed to qualify next season — then the incoming Xabi Alonso will need a solid replacement.

Chelsea make Newcastle United enquiry

Chelsea will probably need a striker to replace the struggling Liam Delap and a new central midfielder, but with Cucurella looking like the first to go, finding a new left-back is a top priority.

And according to Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, the Blues have spoken to Newcastle United and enquired about the availability of several of their players, including former defender Lewis Hall.

“As you know, Chelsea have an interest in Nick Woltemade, but at the moment Newcastle are keen to keep him,” Phillips said on his Substack.

“The other Newcastle player you know about is Lewis Hall, and our sources can confirm that Hall was discussed once again over the weekend. Chelsea are very keen to try and get him in to replace Marc Cucurella, who is expected to depart this summer.

"The other two players Chelsea asked about was Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes.”

Hall came through Chelsea's youth academy, but after failing to establish himself as a first team regular, was loaned to Newcastle United in 2023 before the Magpies signed him permanently the following season.

Lewis Hall has unfinished business but Manchester United big favourites

Interest in Hall is not just reserved to Chelsea, though. Manchester United are also big contenders to sign him in a deal that could surpass £50 million.

Michael Carrick is believed to view the 21-year-old as a long term replacement for Luke Shaw, and moving to Old Trafford will certainly interest the former Chelsea man.

The Red Devils can also boast playing Champions League football after finishing third in the table. Chelsea can offer Hall an exciting project under Alonso, but that still might not be enough to convince him to make a return to Stamford Bridge.

During his three years at St. James' Park, Hall, who has three years left on his contract, has directly contributed to 10 goals in 102 matches in all competitions. He was part of the Newcastle United team that lifted the 2024-25 Carabao Cup.
