Centre-back is one area where Chelsea might need to make a signing this summer. They have signed a lot of central defenders in recent times but very few of them have been able to make an impression. Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Renato Veiga do not seem to have long-term futures at Stamford Bridge. Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo might be great squad options. And Wesley Fofana is simple too injury-prone to be relied upon.

Levi Colwill seems to be the only one who has somewhat of a nailed-on spot in the starting XI. Chelsea do need a long-term partner for him in the heart of defence.

Defence wins championships, and unfortunately, Chelsea do not have one at the moment capable of doing that. They do seem to have the pieces though. On their day, both Reece James and Marc Cucurella are world-class. Colwill is definitely growing into a top defender. Now, there is just one more piece that the Blues need to find.

As reported by CaughtOffside, Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs showing an interest in signing Giorgio Scalvini. The Atalanta centre-back could be available for around €60 million this summer.

The figure is in line with what it takes to sign top prospects in their early 20s. Scalvini has been a regular for Atalanta for a couple of seasons now and he has made eight appearances for the Italy national team as well.

Clubs like Napoli, Juventus and Inter Milan are also pursuing Scalvini. But considering the transfer fee that Atalanta appear to be looking for, it is more than likely that he will end up in the Premier League, if he does leave this summer.

Italy are known for producing great defenders and Italian players have a history of succeeding at Chelsea. So, it is not hard to see why they might be eyeing a move for Scalvini.
