Chelsea’s Struggles Against Arsenal

Chelsea’s recent record against their London rivals paints a grim picture. The Blues have managed just one victory in their last 10 Premier League meetings with Arsenal, scoring 11 goals while conceding twice as many. Their solitary triumph came in a 2-0 win in August 2021.

Since then, Chelsea have lost consecutive league visits to the Emirates, including a humiliating 5-0 defeat in this very fixture last season when Palmer was sidelined with an injury. Another loss would mark Chelsea’s first run of three straight away league defeats to Arsenal since the period between 2001 and 2003.

Conversely, Arsenal are enjoying their longest unbeaten streak against Chelsea in the Premier League since a 19-game run between 1995 and 2005, having won four and drawn two of their last six encounters. The Gunners have claimed victory in six of the last nine meetings (D2 L1), a stark contrast to the 32 games it took them to achieve the same tally between 2004 and 2020 (D10 L16).

However, Mikel Arteta’s side will be wary of recent history, having suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United in their last home league outing. Arsenal have never lost consecutive London derbies at the Emirates in the Premier League, with the last instance of back-to-back home defeats in such fixtures dating back to the 2005-06 campaign.
