Chelsea legend Jorginho will face Chelsea in the Club World Cup, after leaving Arsenal to join Flamengo. An emotional return for the Italian.
For years, there has been a meme circulating about Chelsea selling their worst players to Arsenal and cashing in on the process. However, Jorginho wasn't one of them. He hasn't been a standout player for Arsenal, but he was pivotal to Chelsea's previous success.
Jorginho won the Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and the Club World Cup with Chelsea, so he is remembered fondly by the club. It's an added bonus for fans that he didn't achieve even half the amount with Arsenal.
Well, now, Chelsea fans can actually look forward to facing Jorginho considering he won't be playing for a league rival. Chelsea won't need to wait, as they could be facing him this summer.
Jorginho just switched teams and faces Chelsea immediately
According to an update from Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal has given the green light for Jorginho to play in the FIFA Club World Cup with his new club, Flamengo. He signed a free deal after his Emirates deal expired.
In Flamengo's second game of this summer's Club World Cup, they will face Chelsea. Therefore, this will be a match Jorginho has his eyes on, for emotional reasons.
Jorginho is a brilliant technical player. While he might be the most work-intensive player in the world, he makes up for it with his dictation of play and composure in the midfield.
Signing for Flamengo, he will add some valuable experience to the side. It's Jorginho's first time playing outside of Europe professionally, but he did start his youth career with Brazilian side Brusque, and was born in South Brazil, so he's no stranger to Brazilian football.
We wish Jorginho nothing but success, except in one of his first games against Chelsea, of course.
