Chelsea have joined the race to sign Napoli's dynamic winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as reported by The Athletic. The 23-year-old Georgian sensation has drawn interest from several elite clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Manchester United, setting up an intense transfer battle for the January window.

PSG in pole position but Chelsea could make a push

PSG have emerged as frontrunners in the pursuit of Kvaratskhelia, having initiated direct conversations with Napoli. The player reportedly showed interest in joining PSG last summer, giving them an apparent advantage. However, Chelsea remains confident in their ability to attract the talented winger to Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool's involvement appears less likely in January, given their strong wing options with Luis Díaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota. This situation positions Chelsea as a serious contender, as they actively search for attacking reinforcements. While Spanish international Nico Williams remains an alternative target, Kvaratskhelia's current performances make him a more attractive option.

The Blues' need for a wide attacker has become more evident with Mykhailo Mudryk's ban, and the club's management sees this potential signing as a way to strengthen their position in both domestic and European competitions.

Fans eager for a move to Stamford Bridge

Chelsea supporters have taken to social media platforms to express their enthusiasm about potentially signing Kvaratskhelia. Many fans have posted messages like "I'd take Kvaratskhelia in a heartbeat" and "Please make Kvara happen, Chelsea." The excitement has grown further after Chelsea's Joao Felix previously labelled the Napoli star as a "top player."

What happens next?

While PSG currently leads the chase, Chelsea's interest is expected to grow as the January transfer window approaches. Napoli has set an €80 million (£67 million) price tag on their prized asset, who remains under contract until 2027. Despite this high valuation, interested clubs have not been deterred.

Kvaratskhelia's journey to prominence began at Rubin Kazan before his move to Napoli in 2022. His impressive record of 30 goals and 29 assists in 107 appearances showcases his ability to perform across various attacking positions, though he primarily excels on the left wing.

The Georgian played a crucial role in ending Napoli's 33-year Serie A title drought during the 2022/23 season under Luciano Spalletti, contributing 12 goals and 13 assists in the league campaign. Current Napoli manager Antonio Conte continues to rely heavily on Kvaratskhelia's abilities.
