After winning the Club World Cup, the hope was that Chelsea would go on to have a stellar summer transfer window and stamp themselves as Premier League contenders. But unfortunately, that did not turn out to be the case. Yes, some good additions have been made and the squad is probably stronger now, if everybody can remain fit.
That being said, it does feel like clubs like Liverpool and Arsenal might have been able to increase the gap between themselves and Chelsea. They showed more ambition than the Blues.
Chelsea were working under financial constraints as well, especially having received a UEFA fine recently. So, overall, the fans cannot be too disappointed. There is a lot to look forward to and hopefully the team will continue to move in the right direction.
In fact, it looks like the club might already be putting plans in place for future transfer windows. Morgan Rogers has emerged as their top target for 2026. As reported by TBR Football, Graeme Bailey said:
"Sources have told me all summer that Morgan Rogers was always Chelsea’s top midfielder target – Joe Shields wants him, and frankly, it has been described as ‘staggering’ to imagine him going elsewhere.
“Rogers hugely respects Shields, one of his best friends, Cole Palmer, is there, and it is an ideal scenario. Villa held off interest this summer for the attacker, but Chelsea are just waiting for Rogers."
Chelsea make £100m player their top transfer target for 2026
That might divide the opinion of the fans though. Rogers is a great talent without doubt, having won the PFA Young Player of the Year recently.
His recent performances have not thrilled the Aston Villa supporters, a lot of whom seem to feel that he has not been performing at a high level for a while. Of course, they are the ones who watch him week in and week out. That should be a cause for concern if you are Chelsea.
Chelsea were linked with a move for Rogers, on and off, throughout this summer as well. But unfortunately, nothing materialised, and they did not end up signing Xavi Simons either. Instead, Facundo Buonanotte has been brought in on loan for the season and in what feels like a short-term fix.
