Chelsea have added yet another talented youngster to their ranks in 16-year-old Dastan Satpaev from little known FC Kairat in Kazakhstan. The club plays in Almaty, the largest city in the country and has a rich history of winning domestic cups and the Kazakhstan Premier League.
Some may ask how Chelsea were convinced to sign a 16-year-old from a club in Kazakhstan and the answer lies in the talent that Dastan Satpaev possesses. The youngster became the youngest ever senior player in FC Kairat history when he made his debut in May 2024 at 15 years and 288 days.
Satpaev has only played 10 minutes of football for the senior team but has also made five appearances for the club’s B-team that plays in Kazakhstan’s equivalent of the Championship. He has not been a regular member of either squad but it’s notable that a player so young has been making appearances at that level.

Because he is only 16, the Blues will have to wait until 2026 when he turns 18 for him to officially become a Chelsea player. The transfer will cost a reported £3.3m which will make Satpaev the most expensive footballer in Kazakh football history.
Satpaev has been incredible for the Kairat youth teams where he is scoring nearly a goal a game for the various teams he has played for. According to 90min.com he has scored 26 goals and notched 10 assists in just 28 appearances for the youth teams. He has also played very well in the UEFA Youth League which is the youth equivalent of the Champions League.
This is the type of transfer that can frustrate some fans because they wonder why resources are spent on a player that isn’t even eligible to play for Chelsea for over a year and will likely go on loan shortly after that anyway. What they are missing is that talent can be found all over the world and in today’s digital age it’s easier than ever to find players in far-flung locations.
There is a small chance that Satpaev becomes senior regular for Chelsea but he could also be sold for a profit down the line if he continues to develop and that would make this great business for the Blues. Either way, it gives us a reason to keep tabs on football in Kazakhstan and you can never have too much football or too many hot prospects to develop.
