At the beginning of the transfer window, Chelsea were looking to bring in a new goalkeeper following another rollercoaster season from Robert Sanchez. When he was at his best, he was one of the Blues' top performers, but he was also prone to making game-changing mistakes every now and then. As a result, they tried to sign Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup. However, they failed in their pursuit and have since walked away from the deal.

Recently, the world champions were also loosely linked with a move for Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is currently considered one of the best in the position, after reports in the French media suggested that the Italian could leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer. However, as reported earlier, Chelsea have shut the door on that deal with the club, making it clear they don’t want to pursue the player.

Chelsea have faced a dilemma about whether or not to reinforce the goalkeeping position for quite some time, especially after the Club World Cup. That said, now a new report has confirmed that the Blues have made a firm decision on whether to sign a new goalkeeper in this transfer window.

In a recent Q&A session on football.london, Bobby Vincent was asked whether Chelsea could go for a goalkeeper later in this window. He replied:

"I can't see it at the moment. From what I hear the club are more than happy with the options they have already in the goalkeeper department."

Chelsea take major decision regarding the goalkeeping situation at the club

So it looks like the club won’t be pursuing any other goalkeepers this summer and will stick with Robert Sanchez as their primary option for next season with Filip Jorgensen as his cover. The club recently parted with a significant number of players, which included a few keepers as well, starting with Kepa Arrizabalaga and Djordje Petrovic permanently and Mike Penders on loan to Strasbourg.

It’s true that Sanchez performed exceptionally well at the Club World Cup, especially in the final. But that doesn’t guarantee a similar performance level from the Spanish keeper consistently throughout next season.

So, to be honest, Chelsea are taking a little too much risk with their stance not to bring in someone new. It is curious that they wanted an experienced option like Maginan before the Club World Cup but suddenly believe it is no longer an area of need.
