Chelsea moving closer to signing world-class player

It looks like Chelsea are now moving closer to signing the world-class player in the not-too-distant future.

It does feel like Chelsea might not have done enough in terms of strengthening the squad in the recent summer transfer window. Other than Joao Pedro, nobody else has come in and made an immediate impact on the team. And even the Brazilian has struggled with his output in recent games. It is believed that he has not been fully fit going back to the previous international break but has started constantly due to the Blues' lack of options up top.

Chelsea have their fair share of problems on the opposite end of the pitch as well. Robert Sanchez admittedly has been pretty good so far this season. But then again, you always know that there is always a mistake around the corner when it comes to the Spaniard, even when he is in good form. The red card against Manchester United is a great example as he ended up costing Enzo Maresca's side the game.

On the other hand, Filip Jorgensen struggled against League One side Lincoln City. He simply could not deal with aerial balls and Premier League sides would surely make the most of that obvious weakness in his game.

So, neither goalkeeper seems to be built for a Premier League title push. Chelsea need someone a lot more reliable in goal for that. And are they about to sign a world-class goalkeeper soon?

As reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea are growing in hope that Mike Maignan will not agree a new contract with AC Milan. The Blues have identified him as their number one target and they are optimistic that they will be well placed to make a serious move if an extension is not agreed by the Frenchman.

Of course, there are many questions around Maignan as well. His performances have not been brilliant in recent seasons. He was considered one of the best in the world not too long ago. But is he still capable of reaching those heights? Or is he past his best at 30 years of age.

Also, what would a move for Maignan mean for the development of Mike Penders. He has gone to Strasbourg and immediately established himself as a starter. In 9 games, he has only conceeded 10 goals. Sooner or later, the 20-year-old, dubbed the next Thibaut Courtois, will also be looking for chances at Chelsea or look towards the exit door.
