Chelsea have already been involved in quite a few transfers this summer, both in terms of arrivals and departures. It is not expected to stop anytime soon though, especially when you consider the number of players still on their books as well as some of the names being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. They need to fid farewell to some in order to make room for fresh faces.

Centre-back is one are Chelsea are looking to strengthen this summer. Names like Marc Guehi, Jorrel Hato, Mario Gila and a few others have been linked with them. But for one such high-profile addition to be made, they might need to say goodbye to those who do not seem to have a future in that area of the pitch.

Axel Disasi was signed from AS Monaco with the hope that he would not only be a regular at centre-back but a leader as well. His ability to play as a right-back was viewed as an added bonus. So far, what Chelsea have seen is a defender who has failed to meet expectations.

Disasi spent the second half of last season out on loan at Aston Villa. And now, it might be time to find him a permanent transfer exit. Could Newcastle United prove to be his next destination?

As reported by CaughtOffside, “negotiations have begun” between Chelsea and Newcastle United over the €35m transfer of Disasi. The Magpies are keen to sign the defender this summer and initial talks have already started. It is felt that Eddie Howe's side might be able to negotiate that figure down to more like €30m.

Let's just say that Chelsea will have to part ways with Disasi at a loss. They had signed him from AS Monaco for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of €45 million, a figure nobody is expected to meet after his two underwhelming seasons since moving to England.

It is worth mentioning that Disasi is not the only centre-back being linked with a move away this summer. Renato Veiga is another one and is believed to be on the radar of Bayern Munich. Wesley Fofana could be on his way out as well after three injury-riddled campaigns with Chelsea.

On the other hand, things might have changed for Trevoh Chalobah. The club had seemed keen to part ways with him last summer but now, he is no longer someone they are actively trying to engineer a move for, thanks to his impressive performances in recent months, including in the Club World Cup final.
