It was always going to be a gamble appointing Liam Rosenior as Chelsea manager. However, following his sacking, it is obvious that the Blues need a boss with far more experience. Julian Nagelsmann is no doubt the man to take charge at Stamford Bridge.
Rosenior was sacked following Chelsea's 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, which was the club's fifth straight Premier League defeat. The Blues are now seventh in the division, with a real chance of missing out on qualifying for the Champions League.
Calum McFarlane will take charge of Chelsea on a caretaker basis until the end of the season. He had been the interim boss at the club when Enzo Maresca departed earlier in the campaign. He oversaw a credible 1-1 draw with Manchester City, but that followed a 2-1 defeat to West London rivals, Fulham.
McFrarlane has a big job on his hands; the Blues are currently seven points off of fifth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League. He also has to prepare Chelsea for an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United this Sunday.
Julian Nagelsmann is the man to replace Liam Rosenior permanently
Regardless of how McFarlane does between now and the end of the season, Chelsea will likely appoint a manager with far more experience at the highest level next. Rosenior had only managed Derby County on an interim basis, Hull City, and Strasbourg before taking charge at Stamford Bridge.
Strasbourg is Chelsea's sister club, which made the appointment straightforward. However, it is not likely that the club will make a similar appointment from Strasbourg again after Rosenior's disaster at the club. This is bad news for the current Strasbourg manager, Gary O'Neil, who may have thought that his pathway could lead him to be the next Chelsea manager.
Chelsea fans are used to having big-name managers such as Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, and Thomas Tuchel in charge of their club. This is one reason why they never took to Rosenior, and nicknamed him 'LinkedIn Liam.'
Nagelsmann is the clear frontrunner to be the next Chelsea boss. He has an impressive CV, having managed Bayern Munich and won the Bundesliga with them. Before being Bayern's boss, he was with RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim.
Nagelsmann is currently Germany's head coach and will lead them at the World Cup this summer. He is contracted to Germany until 2028, but Chelsea needs to make a statement by luring him from Die Mannschaft.
