It is safe to say that Chelsea need to shake things up this winter. Their season has been unravelling over the past several weeks. There has also been a change in the managerial hot seat with Enzo Maresca leaving, after rumours of a falling out behind the scenes with the ownership, and Liam Rosenior being brought in from Strasbourg, a controversial move that has not left the French club's fans happy.
It is not like Chelsea fans are delighted at the decision to give the chance to someone who does not exactly have the credentials for a job of this magnitude. Let's hope that Rosenior is able to prove the critics wrong and turn out to be a success in the Stamford Bridge hot seat. The supporters are willing to give him the opportunity to impress, but if the start is poor, it won't take long for them to turn, especially with the ownership, specifically Behdad Egbahli, already under growing pressure.
One would hope that Chelsea go out and make some additions in this January window. So far, they have only been involved in departures though.
As reported by the club's official website, Leo Castledine has left Chelsea. The English midfielder has completed a permanent transfer to Championship club Middlesbrough.
Chelsea officially announce midfielder's permanent exit
There were high hopes surrounding him at one point in time. In fact, Castledine enjoyed a phenomenal loan spell at Huddersfield Town, scoring 12 goals in 27 appearances for the League One side.
That has convinced Middlesbrough to go out and sign him. The transfer fee is not significant by Chelaea's standards, but there is believed to be a significant sell-on clause.
We can only wish Castledine the best of luck as he takes the next step in his career. Some stability at a club where he can get consistent first-team football will do him well. As for Chelsea, let's hope that some genuine first-team quality and experience is added to Rosenior's squad this winter.
