Many had imagined that the change in ownership would bring about much more stability at Chelsea. That has not necessarily been the case. There is not much that remains to be said about their transfer activity since the takeover, having spent more than a billion pounds without making any real progress in terms of success on or off the pitch.
On the other hand, there has been constant upheaval in the managerial hot seat as well. Thomas Tuchel was sacked weeks into the 22/23 season, despite his proven track record at Chelsea. He was replaced by Graham Potter, who proved to be a complete flop. Frank Lampard came in in an interim role until the end of the campaign. That was followed by a one-season run from Mauricio Pochettino.
Enzo Maresca is the first one to last more than a season. But questions are already being raised about his long-term future at the club with Juventus seemingly interested in the Italian manager.
It is safe to say that it is not easy for players to thrive amidst these constant changes. And Robert Sanchez seems believe that was one of the reasons behind his struggles at Chelsea.
Chelsea player blames new signings and manager change for struggles
As reported by the Mirror, Sanchez said about his past struggles at Chelsea:
"The whole entrance into Chelsea for me personally, was difficult. I came in a rush, only had about three days of training on how to start with a new manager, a new team and it was a bit of a struggle.
"I got used to it then got a massive injury on my knee around Christmas which put me out for the rest of the season.
"Then I came back, got stronger, then a new manager came in again and new signings, so I had to start again. Now, I'm doing good."
Credit where it is due, Sanchez has been solid this season. His recent performance against Tottenham Hotspur was further proof of his improvement, as he was commanding in goal and good with his delivery.
Admittedly, there always seems to be that odd mistake in Sanchez's game. We saw that against Manchester United earlier this season, as he was sent off. But for the most part, the Spaniard has been solid in goal for Chelsea this season. He probably has not gotten the credit that he deserves either, as fans are wary of the next mistake being around the corner and not praising him too early.
