The January transfer window could very well be an interesting one for Chelsea. Since the change in ownership, the club have moved away from signing established superstars, instead focusing on bringing rising talents to Stamford Bridge. Some of those moves have worked out. Others have not. More than three years on, and there is still a lot of debate around the strategy.
On one hand, many feel that Chelsea have set themselves up to be one of the premier teams in world football for years to come with the squad that they have assembled. They have the likes of Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Estevao and more, and players like Geovany Quenda, Mike Penders and Dastan Satpaev will arrive soon enough.
On the other hand, some feel that Chelsea are stuck in a never-ending cycle of signing youngsters. The recent decision to part ways with Noni Madueke and replace him with Jamie Gittens is a prime example of this. It did not improve the quality of the squad at all and felt like signing another 'rising talent' just for the sake of it.
In January, quite a few might be looking to leave the club in search of first-team football. But Chelsea might not be willing to consider all requests.
Chelsea player wants to leave but the club might block exit
As reported by The Athletic, Filip Jorgensen wants a move to get more first-team football. But Chelsea do not want to change their options in that position.
Jorgensen has never looked like someone who can be a starter for Chelsea. He does not look comfortable with aerial balls and the physicality of the English game.
That being said, it might be difficult for Chelsea to replace Jorgensen in the middle of the season. Bringing back Penders next summer and allowing his more senior teammate to depart then might be a much better solution, although that won't help the Danish international's World Cup chances.
