Chelsea had one of the best summer transfer windows of any club in Europe. It's hardly surpsising that the Blues dominated the market, as they've made quite the habit out of this in recent years.

Enzo Maresca, after winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup, gave the Chelsea hierarchy every reason to trust his vision. Now, he's signed players in key positions of need, and Chelsea can look forward to the season ahead.

On deadline day, Chelsea were active. They may have secured their business early doors, but the Blues were never going to pass up golden market opportunities.

And they found just that, in a transfer which completely flew under the radar.

Chelsea signed Facundo Buonanotte on a loan deal from Brighton and Hove Albion, the same club they signed Joao Pedro from this window, and Moises Caicedo from a few windows ago.

Speaking to the club, Buonanotte said: "I’m very happy to join Chelsea. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m just looking to add as much to the squad as possible, help the team and help the staff."

Chelsea fans can be forgiven for not knowing too much about Buonanotte at this stage. He wasn't targeted for the entire window, but he did spend last season on loan at Enzo Maresca's former club, Leicester City. So, of course, the Italian had an eye on him while watching the Foxes.

Chelsea star Facundo Buonanotte just got compared to Jude Bellingham

According to FBRef, the player fifth most similar to Facundo Buonanotte in their database is Jude Bellingham (yes, really). They are both known to take on many shots (Bellingham with 2.17 shots per 90, Buonanotte with 2.13), and Jude Bellingham has a higher shot on target percentage of 36.7% (Buonanotte's is 33.3%).

Look, if Buonanotte turns out to be half the player that Bellingham is, Chelsea fans will be over the moon. Bellingham is one of the best players in the world, and he's known to show up for Real Madrid on the big occasion. Chelsea needs more big-game players if they are to take on the Champions League this season.

Now, it's the international break. Chelsea returns to action on the 13th September, taking on Brentford. Then, they'll face Bayern Munich in the first Champions League match of the season.

Some big games coming up, so we'll learn a lot about Buonanotte's mentality in the coming matches.
