This summer transfer window promises to be a busy one for Chelsea. They have already agreed a deal for Liam Delap and are believed to be in discussions to sign Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund as well. On the other hand, the Blues seem to be open to parting ways with a number of players.
Chelsea's transfer record has been pretty hit-and-miss. Of course, moves for players like Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella have worked out. But then, one cannot overlook the ones that have not.
One that falls under that category is Wesley Fofana. The Blues spent a transfer package of £75 million to sign him from Leicester City. Back then, he was considered one of the best rising defenders in the world.
It is safe to say that things have not gone according to plan for Fofana at Stamford Bridge. He has done well when fit but unfortunately, that has rarely been the case. And now, it looks like the Blues might be looking to go in a different direction.
Chelsea ready to let £75m player leave this summer
As reported by The Guardian, Chelsea have an extensive list of players available. Fofana’s fitness problems mean that suitable offers for the Frenchman will be hard to turn down.
When fit and available, Fofana has been a starter for Chelsea. Yet, over his three seasons with the club, he has only made 34 appearances. That speaks for itself. It is not hard to understand why the Blues might be out of patience by now.
If Fofana does leave, Chelsea might need to bring in a replacement though. Will the Blues go out and sign a high-profile centre-back this summer? We will find out soon. For now, there do seem to be a few such rumours with the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Marc Guehi being linked.
