Since the change in ownership, Chelsea have been very disciplined when it comes to the contracts that they have handed out. The club clearly work under a certain wage structure these days, which is one of the primary reasons they do not go out and sign proven, experienced players. But there are also occasions when they miss out on in-demand youngsters, and they must have regretted one such transfer fail in their 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich.

Last year, Chelsea had the chance to sign Michael Olise. But it felt like they did not make a genuine push for him and he ultimately ended up joining Bayern Munich.

The reasons have been made clear already. As reported by GIVEMESPORT back in June of last year, Chelsea felt that Crystal Palace's demands, Olise's wage expectations and the agent fees were too high to proceed with rubber-stamping a deal.

Well, based on Olise's performance on the night, perhaps it would have been a better idea to pursue that move. The Frenchman was Bayern Munich's best player by quite some distance. In the first half, he looked nothing short of world-class. And while his influence on the game diminished after the break, he came close to scoring twice.

After Chelsea missed out on Olise, they signed Pedro Neto. He has been pretty good in recent times. But against Bayern Munich, he was pretty ineffective.

Olise looked like a truly special player on the night. Missing out on him might be something that Chelsea end up regretting for years to come.

If Olise was in the Chelsea team instead of Bayern Munich, it is very possible that the result could have been reversed. Still, there were some positive signs for the Blues on the night, while Enzo Maresca was given plenty to work on by the Bavarians.
