Chelsea are expected to oversee another busy summer as Xabi Alonso prepares to officially take charge on July 1, with several players likely to arrive and several others potentially heading for the exit door.

Despite wholesale changes being expected to be made, not every player is available for transfer, though.

While Chelsea remain open to selling a number of first-team players, including Marc Cucurella, who is wanted by three clubs, there is one youngster the Blues appear determined to keep hold of at all costs.

Chelsea reject approaches for Josh Acheampong

According to BBC Sport, Chelsea have rejected multiple enquiries for academy graduate Josh Acheampong and have no interest in entertaining offers for him this summer.

That will undoubtedly come as welcome news to Chelsea fans, who have been calling for the 20-year-old to get more opportunities ever since his breakthrough into the first team.

The highly-rated academy graduate is regarded as one of the brightest prospects currently coming through the system, and thankfully, Chelsea have finally made their stance crystal clear.

The defender has a bright future and could become a major player for Chelsea over the coming years.

Because of his potential, the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are all understood to be monitoring the situation closely, while Bournemouth, who wanted him last summer, remain keen.

Acheampong, despite being a home grown talent, and therefore a player who would represent 100 per cent profit on the books, is not for sale, though.

Bigger role under Xabi Alonso expected

The 20-year-old, who has six caps for England's under-21's under his belt, is viewed internally as virtually untouchable and somebody capable of playing a much bigger role under Alonso next season.

That is an exciting prospect considering the youngster made just eight starts in the Premier League last campaign.

Alonso's new system and way of playing will almost certainly benefit Acheampong who is already incredibly versatile and capable of playing in multiple defensive positions.

Alonso loves that sort of versatility too. The 44-year-old has built his reputation on developing players and turning the good ones into great ones.

For once, BlueCo's stance on Acheampong seems less like the club are just trying to protect a valuable asset and more like they can see just how important he will become under the new manager.

Since making his first team debut at the end of 2024, Acheampong, who has three years left on his contract, has scored two goals in 44 appearances in all competitions.
