All summer long, Chelsea have been linked with a number of FC Barcelona players, but it has not led to anywhere of substance and no move has taken place so far. The first speculation was about Fermin Lopez, who looks set to stay at Camp Nou. Then there were rumours about Ronald Araujo, following Levi Colwill's injury, but there has been no movement in that regard. Could it be third time lucky?

Chelsea have not completed deals for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho yet. But that has not stopped them from being linked with another Barcelona midfielder.

As reported by Fichajes, Marc Casado has sparked the interest of Chelsea. They are willing to pay close to €50 million to secure his signature.

It remains to be seen how accurate the rumours linking Chelsea with Casado turn out to be. It is not hard to understand why someone of his profile would be of interest to the Blues. At 21 years of age, he is a full Spanish international and was able to establish himself as a regular starter for Barcelona last season before an injury ended up derailing the last few months of his campaign.

Someone like Casado would be a terrific addition for most teams on the planet. But do Chelsea need him at this point in time?

They already have the likes of Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos. Where would Casado fit in, even if he arrived.

Of course, one cannot overlook Lavia's injury history. While a terrific talent, he has spent the majority of his time out injured since joining Chelsea. If this proves to be another injury-riddled campaign for him, the club might decide that the time has come to look at other options in midfield for the long-term.
