Chelsea might sell defender just six months after his £12m transfer

Chelsea defender Renato Veiga might leave Chelsea, just six months after joining for a £12m transfer. He is wanted by Bournemouth and Wolves.

Chelsea have a huge squad and one which they might wish to trim down during the January transfer window. Enzo Maresca inherited an inflated squad and after taking the first half of the season to familiarise himself with the players, he knows who to keep and who to sell.

While Chelsea will have an eye on bringing players in, like they always do, fans are braced to see more players leave than join in the January transfer window. It's not a bad position to be in, after all.

Chelsea might sell defender just six months after his £12m transfer

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea could part ways with Renato Veiga, just six months after he joined from Basel. The full-back by trade is on the fringe of first-team football at Chelsea but hasn't been used nearly enough by Enzo Maresca, hence why he is one of the players who could face the chop.

Veiga is wanted by Bournemouth and Wolves. Of course, the Cherries already have one Chelsea player on loan in Kepa Arrizabalaga, therefore they would have to make the deal for Veiga permanent if they pursued their initial interest.

The report very much takes the tone of Chelsea being open to selling Veiga permanently, despite only signing him in the summer transfer window. It wouldn't be the strangest transfer decision ever made from Chelsea, mind. The Blues are known to be reckless with their ins and outs.

Chelsea would like to bring in a new centre back, namely Marc Guehi. This is why a handful of their current defenders, especially those already far down in the pecking order, are being linked with moves away in the January transfer window.

After all, the competition for places is only bound to heat up at Stamford Bridge between now and the end of the season.
