Chelsea's best signing since the change in ownership has been Cole Palmer. Having struggled for a major role in Pep Guardiola's side, the Englishman chose to head for Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2023 and has developed into the face of the club since then. And now, it looks like the Blues might be looking to repeat their trick by signing another one of Manchester City's most talented youngsters.
Chelsea have Reece James and Malo Gusto already, with Josh Acheampong also capable of playing at right-back, even though he seems like a primary centre-back option following Levi Colwill's injury. That has not stopped them from linked with a Manchester City right-back.
As reported by CaughtOffside, Chelsea are one of the teams believed to have made enquiries with Man City about Rico Lewis. The Blues' interest, in particular, is said to be serious.
Lewis is one of Manchester City's most talented youngsters though and this season, his playing time is expected to increase. So, there is little reason for him to leave at this point. But you never know in football.
Chelsea seriously interested in signing Manchester City player
If Lewis were to leave, Nottingham Forest seem to be his most likely destination at this point. Let's see if Chelsea do end up making a serious push for him or not.
Even if Chelsea do make a move, one would imagine that Manchester City would be wary about strengthening a direct Premier League rival, especially after how things have turned out for Palmer at Stamford Bridge. So, a move to the Blues does feel unlikely for Lewis.
And to be honest, there are other areas on the pitch in more urgent need of strengthening. Perhaps Chelsea need to give a second thought about their centre-back situation, with Levi Colwill out injured for the foreseeable future.
