Chelsea have relied heavily on young talent in recent years following the takeover by the BlueCo group. Players like Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, and Enzo Fernandez have already established themselves among the best in the business, and plenty of others are showing the potential that they could do the same.
While most of the current youngsters have been brought in from other clubs, it’s important to remember that Chelsea’s academy have produced several quality players over the years. This includes notable active names like Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, Jamal Musiala, Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, as well as current Chelsea captain Reece James, to name a few.
Now it looks like the Blues may have struck gold once again. And they could have someone who might be able to solve their issues up top.
The international break is underway, and many players have been called up to represent their national teams. England’s Under-19 matches are also taking place, and one Chelsea academy player has turned heads with his performance against Spain.
Chelsea might a future star striker right under their noses
We are talking about 17-year-old striker Shumaira Mheuka. The promising forward has been part of the Chelsea academy since 2022. And he is scoring for fun at the moment.
In three Premier League 2 games for Chelsea U21s, he has scored four goals, including a hattrick against Manchester City. And in his last three games for England U19s, he has scored five times.
The club added two new strikers this summer, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. However, the Englishman is currently sidelined with an injury. While some may hope to see Mheuka join the senior squad soon, especially if injury troubles continue, we think that he still needs to develop further before being given the green light by Enzo Maresca. He does have five first-team appearances to his name already though.
Anyway, with Mheuka already turning heads, Chelsea might have their next big star waiting in their academy itself. The youngster has all the abilities to become one of the best in the future. He just needs to stay focused and keep working hard.
