Chelsea's attempts to sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan led nowhere as the club were unwilling to meet the Italian club's demands for a player set to turn 30 and with only one year left on his contract. In the aftermath, the suggestion has been that the club trust the goalkeepers that they already and are looking to continue with them.

That might not be actually true though. In fact, if some claims in the media are accurate, then Enzo Maresca might not be a fan of any of the goalkeepers that Chelsea have right now.

Of course, they are Djordje Petrovic, Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The latter is on his way to Arsenal, and he might not be the only one leaving either.

It looks like Sanchez, the club's number one, and Petrovic, who had an excellent season on loan at Strasbourg and was their Player of the Season, have both been told that they can leave this summer. As reported by The Chelsea Chronicle, Graeme Bailey said:

"This talk of Chelsea having full faith in their five goalkeepers because we can throw Kepa into this as well. There really is no faith from Enzo Maresca in this at all. Of those five, Enzo Maresca doesn’t want any of them. Robert Sanchez has been told he can leave.

“Djordje Petrovic has been told he can leave and there’s interest from Nice. There’s quite a bit of interest in France in him. No shock given the season he just had."

Sanchez was excellent in the last portion of the season and was one of the main reasons Chelsea were able to get over the line in the top four race. If he can manage to take the errors out of his game, he is a pretty good goalkeeper. But unfortunately, it looks like Maresca has already given up on trying to get the best out him.

On the other hand, Petrovic is someone who impressed last season. But it looks like that was not enough to catch the eye of Maresca, who wants a particular kind of goalkeeper.

Chelsea were not able to agree a fee to sign Maignan. It remains to be seen if they make another attempt after the Club World Cup. Also, there is the possibility that they might choose to wait and sign him for free next summer.
