It was an eventful deadline day for Chelsea, there is no doubt about that. Of course, the big story was the departure of Nicolas Jackson as Bayern Munich agreed a €80-plus million loan plus obligation to buy deal. It had looked like the Senegalese striker was going to stay at Stamford Bridge after Liam Delap's injury but that has not happened.
It has left Enzo Maresca short of options up top though and knowingly so. Joao Pedro has been stellar since arriving but beyond him, the second choice right now is Marc Guiu. Is he good enough to lead the line for the Blues if the Brazilian ended up suffering an injury? 'No' is the most probable answer to that question.
Another forgotten Chelsea striker appears to have agreed a last-minute exit as well. As reported by Anthony Joseph, David Datro Fofana has agreed to join Charlton Athletic on loan. The club have submitted a deal sheet for the player and are trying hard to complete the move in time.
Of course, Fofana has never managed to establish himself at Chelsea. He has already spent three spells out on loan at clubs like Union Berlin, Burnley and Goztepe. Now, it looks like a fourth stint is around the corner.
Chelsea striker agrees last-minute offer to join English club
Even if Fofana had stayed at Chelsea, it is hard to imagine that he would have been a genuine option for Maresca's side. So, heading out on loan would be the best step for him.
Right now, it is pretty clear that Fofana does not have much of a future at Chelsea. One can only hope that he has a decent loan spell somewhere and can then be moved on for a satisfactory transfer fee.
We can only wish Fofana the best of luck in his next step. Let's hope the transfer can be completed in time.
