Chelsea's summer transfer decisions might have left them in the position that they are in right now. Other than Joao Pedro, nobody has really come in and established themselves as a starter. That is not what they needed, and with a number of injury problems as well. it does look like Enzo Maresca's side have taken a few steps back.
One of the big signings that Chelsea made this summer was bringing in Jorrel Hato from Ajax in a €45 million deal. But it already looks like he could be set for a move away from Stamford Bridge, temporarily, to develop his game further.
At the moment, Hato simply has not looked ready. He started the game against Lincoln City and struggled against League One opposition. It might be too early to make any judgments but based on what we have seen so far, it does not feel like the Dutchman is ready to contribute meaningfully at the Premier League level right now.
As reported by Dutch outlet Soccer News, a loan period to an Eredivisie club is already being tentatively suggested. It is so that Hato can work on himself and return as a player who is actually ready for the real thing.
Chelsea summer signing could already leave this January
To be honest, we do not feel like a loan period at a Dutch club would help. He played plenty of football while at Ajax. So, he is not going to experience anything different by going back to the Eredivisie. We already know he is good enough for that level.
If Chelsea want to send Hato out on loan, it should be to a Premier League club where he will get to play consistent football. That might get him ready for life at Stamford Bridge.
Let's see what ends up happening. But it is concerning how badly some of the club's summer signings have done lately and raises serious concerns about the recruitment team in place.
