Chelsea have one of the most expensive squads in the world right now. Since the change in ownership, they have spent north of £1 billion in bringing in new talent to Stamford Bridge. But this has not been reflected in their performances or results. They have gone from perennial contenders to celebrating fourth-place finishes over the last few years.

Winning the Club World Cup was memorable for sure. But they have not been able to build on that. This summer might have been the right time to go out and secure some proven talent. Instead, the club continued to recruit youngsters and it has not worked out, with the Blues taking a few steps back from where they were.

This has led to some players being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. Malo Gusto is rumoured to be drawing the interest of Juventus according to reports in the Italian media.

On the other hand, as reported by RMC Sport, Gusto and Chelsea are already discussing an extension of his contract in London, which currently runs until 2030. In addition to a salary increase commensurate with his role in the team, the discussions are focused on one or two additional years.

Do Chelsea really need Gusto though? Reece James' fitness situation has been much better lately as Enzo Maresca's load management tactics seem to have worked.

Also, Josh Acheampong can easily play in that position. And there have been some rumours linking Chelsea with a move for Guela Doue, who is currently at Strasbourg.

It is also worth pointing out that we have never seen the best of Gusto under the management of Maresca. Mauricio Pochettino's system seemed to suit him a lot better and the Frenchman seems a bit lost at times in his current role.
