Chelsea have completed three signings this summer and the hope is that they will add quite a few more players before the start of the 25/26 campaign. For now, the focus has to be on the final of the Club World Cup, where they will take on PSG, the best team on the planet by a country mile, considering how easily they got past Real Madrid in the semi-final.
One player Chelsea fans won't be confident about going into that game is Robert Sanchez. The Spaniard has all the attributes to be a top goalkeeper but he always lets himself down by making errors.
That is the last thing Chelsea need to do against a team like PSG. Real Madrid made a few and Luis Enrique's side took advantage every time.
In the long run, Chelsea do need someone more reliable in goal. Sanchez might not be the answer but how about someone who is a World Cup winner and has changed the face of Argentine football in recent years?
Chelsea tipped to sign World Cup winner ahead of Man Utd
The player we are talking about is none other than Emiliano Martinez. Manchester United are believed to be keen to sign him but Chelsea have been backed to make a move as well, having failed to bring in Mike Maignan earlier this summer. As reported by Football Insider, Mick Brown said:
"Martinez is a very good goalkeeper, and from what I hear there are a few clubs who have been made aware that he will be available this summer.
“One of those clubs is Chelsea, who have been looking to strengthen in that position.
“It’s different at Chelsea to Man United, because they’ve got about four goalkeepers but they can go and sign Martinez and worry about what to do with the rest afterwards.
“As things stand, I’d say they’re in a good position to get ahead of United for that deal.
“The door has been left open so it wouldn’t surprise me to see them make a move."
Martinez is a phenomenal talent. One could argue that he has been just as important to Argentina as Lionel Messi, as they have gone on to win two Copa Americas and a World Cup on the trot. It is not everyday that you get the chance to sign a player of that quality.
Rarely do Chelsea sign experienced players these days. But this one might be worth making an exception for.
