Chelsea were one of the busiest clubs throughout the summer transfer window, both in terms of incomings as well as outgoings. Speaking of new arrivals, they've managed to bring in several young, top-quality players such as Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Estevao, Jorrel Hato and Alejandro Garnacho. The Blues have a new-look forward line this season as a result of these additions.
Among all of these players, the one who has looked the best and wowed the most since his arrival at Stamford Bridge is none other than Pedro. The Brazilian joined in a £55m move from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer and was immediately included in Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup squad.
He appeared in three games and scored thrice in that competition, helping Chelsea to become the World Champions. Pedro has been a fantastic addition for the Blues so far, having already scored twice and provided two assists in the first three Premier League games. He has already solidified his position as a vital member of Enzo Maresca's team.
Following a good start in West London, the Brazilian international has caught the eye of former England and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey. He believes Pedro is a great signing who can follow in the footsteps of Chelsea legends. Speaking to EPL Index, he said:
"I like the signing of Joao Pedro at Chelsea, I think he can now follow in the steps of Didier Drogba and Diego Costa to lead the line for Chelsea so well."
Chelsea told they've signed next Didier Drogba and Diego Costa
Well that's a huge claim, considering how great both these players were for Chelsea. Drogba scored 184 goals in 381 appearances for the Blues, while Costa scored 59 in 120 games.
However, since then, the Blues have struggled to identify an appropriate number nine. Many big names have come in between, including Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and even Nicolas Jackson, but all have failed to meet expectations. Can Pedro establish himself as Chelsea's striker for years to come?
However, with only three games into the Premier League, Cole Palmer and Delap have both sustained injuries. The latter will be out until November. Although Marc Guiu has been recalled from his loan at Sunderland, the fans remain concerned about the lack of depth with the Champions League coming up.
Pedro now has additional responsibility because he is expected to be the Blues' primary starter up front until Delap recovers. He is fit and ready for Chelsea's first game back from the international break, which is an away trip to Brentford on Saturday.
