Off the back of a three-game winless run, Chelsea would have hoped to get back to winning ways against struggling Bournemouth, and that's exactly what they got, demolishing the Cherries 5-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Over the last few years, Chelsea have been criticised for their transfer business, by overpaying or buying too many players, correlating to mediocre performances on the pitch, but with Xabi Alonso being able to communicate to the board regarding who he would like the club to buy for the style of football he wants to play, that has seen a steady uptick in form for the Blues.

Players such as Pep Chavarria, Emiliano Martinez, and Marco Palestra have all impressed so far in their appearances for Chelsea this season, and three others who were purchased within the last two summer transfer windows have been named in Alan Shearer's team of the week.

Jordan Henderson and Morgan Rogers, who were bought this summer, and Joao Pedro, purchased in 2025, were all named in the former Newcastle and Blackburn's team of the week for Matchweek five.

Joao Pedro was bought from Brighton in July 2025 for up to £60 million, and since then has been one of Chelsea's most impressive players, scoring 20 Premier League goals in 40 appearances, scoring another two for the Blues against Bournemouth.

Although Rogers and Henderson have only been at the club for a couple of months, in their short stint at Stamford Bridge, they have hit the ground running, especially Rogers, who has eight goal involvements in eight appearances, whereas Henderson, who made only his second Premier League appearance for Chelsea on Saturday, got named as the Premier League player of the week after getting two goals and an assist.

The three of them scored all of Chelsea's five goals at the weekend, with Henderson kicking off the rout, scoring after only two minutes, but Rogers scored just one minute and 24 seconds later, Joao Pedro was to get in on the act, scoring twice after 46 and 67 minutes, but the scoring wasn't done, with Henderson curling in a beautiful free kick after 70 minutes to complete the thrashing.

Henderson became Chelsea's oldest player to get three goal involvements, and the oldest in the competition since Cristiano Ronaldo in April 2022, and was the second Chelsea player this season to be voted the player of the week after Cole Palmer won the award in Matchweek one against Fulham.

The trio were accompanied in the team of the week by Elliot Anderson and Ruben Dias from Manchester City, Brighton's Maxim de Cuyper, Everton's Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Coventry centre back, Luke Thomas, Arsenal's first goalscorer, Riccardo Calafiori, Ipswich's Dango Outtara, and Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Walter Benitez.
