Chelsea vs AC Milan match preview

After losing their last two pre-season matches to Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus, the Blues will want to get back to winning ways. However, Xabi Alonso will be more interested in his team's performance than the final result.

As for AC Milan so far this pre-season, they have drawn 2-2 with Celtic and then played out a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan. The Rossoneri will want to get some wins under their belt before competitive action starts.

Milan play Manchester United in their next pre-season match. Then their Serie A campaign begins when they take on Torino. The Rossoneri finished fifth in Italy's top flight last season, which qualified them for the Europa League.

Chelsea finished 10th in the Premier League in the last campaign. This means that they will be without European football. This will allow Alonso to focus mainly on league action, apart from the two domestic cup competitions. The Blues will be expected to at least qualify for the Champions League. However, it might be a stretch for them to challenge the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

A pre-season fixture between Chelsea and Milan was played out last year. That day, Chelsea won 4-1 with Liam Delap scoring a brace. This was not a sign of things to come, as Delap went on to flop in his first campaign with the Blues. There is even talk that he could be on his way out, with Chelsea signing Danny Welbeck.

Chelsea team news

The headlines from the defeat to Juventus were all about Mykhailo Mudryk, who returned to action for the first time in nearly two years. The Ukrainian was banned for doping, but charges have now been dropped.

Mudryk made a late substitute appearance, being introduced in the 82nd minute. Therefore, he could be given more game time against Milan. New signings Geovany Quenda and Danny Welbeck both started against Juve. Alonso is rotating his squad a lot this pre-season, so a changed lineup from the last game is expected.

Chelsea are also still without Enzo Fernández, Jordan Henderson, Reece James, Maxence Lacroix, Morgan Rogers, Valentín Barco, Malo Gusto and Trevoh Chalobah, who all reached the latter stages of the World Cup. Chalobah is also set to join Como.

  • Chelsea predicted lineup vs AC Milan: Penders; Acheampong, Fofana, Sarr, Hato; Estevao, Essugo, Lavia, Mudryk; Delap, Jackson

AC Milan team news

Milan also has a new manager, with former United boss Ruben Amorim now in charge. They are missing Christian Pulisic and Santiago Giménez, who are injured. The Rossoneri will also be without Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot, who are on a break after France reached the semi-finals of the World Cup. The Blues could come up against some of their former players, including Christopher Nkunku, Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

  • AC Milan predicted lineup vs Chelsea: Terracciano; Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlović; Chukwueze, Modric, Musah, Estupinan; LeĂŁo, Nkunku, Ramos
  • Score prediction: Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
