Chelsea vs Austria Wien match preview
Will this finally be the year Chelsea are crowned champions of Europe? Since 2018, the Blues have lost in one final and five semi-finals, with Barça Femení ending their hopes four times to start the decade. Well, last time round, Sonia Bompastor's team were ousted by Arsenal in the quarter-finals, as well as seeing their streak of six successive WSL titles come to and, actually finishing third.
As a result, the Blues had to negotiate a qualifier just to get back into the league phase, but did so with flying colours. They hammered Real Sociedad over two legs, winning 5-2 at home and then 1-0 in San Sebastián. Meantime, after an opening weekend draw with Aston Villa, back-to-back victories over Manchester United and Birmingham City suggest Chelsea will be contenders in the WSL as usual.
This though is a crucial week for Bompastor's team. They welcome rivals Arsenal to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, before taking on OL Lyonnes in the Champions League next Wednesday. Facing two of the best teams in Europe in the next week, Chelsea will not want to slip up in Wimbledon.
As for Austria Wien, they won a first-ever ÖFB Frauen Bundesliga title last season, also picking up the domestic cup, having never previously won any major silverware before. Thus, after qualification victories over Hajduk Split, Farul Constanța and then Brann over two legs, the Violets have got into the Champions League for the first time.
Last season, Stefan Kenesei's did reach the quarter-finals of the inaugural UEFA Women's Europa Cup, eventually ousted by Sparta Prague. This though will be an exponentially tougher task, hence why an emphatic home win is forecast at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

Ahead of matches against Arsenal and Lyon, it seems likely that Sonia Bompastor will rotate her team. Melvine Malard's goal off the bench on Saturday could earn her a start this time, with USWNT defender Naomi Girma rested for the win over Birmingham.
Star striker Lauren James missed the match due to a knock, so is unlikely to be risked here.

For many of Stefan Kenesei's squad, this will be the biggest match of this careeers. Modesta Uka scored six goals in qualifying, including a hat-trick against Brann, with Elisa Pfattner bagging four goals, so can either add to their tallies in West London?
