Chelsea vs Bournemouth match preview
After an, at best, mixed start to the season, can Chelsea start to build some momentum? Following high-scoring wins over Fulham and Brighton, many were touting Xabi Alonso's side as bona fide title challengers. However, subsequently, the Blues have picked up just one point from three matches, very much crashing back down to earth.
Last time out, Chelsea were demolished 3-0 by Brentford, all the goals coming after the hour mark, underlining how far they still have to go to truly compete. Thus, it will have been a very long international window for Alonso, so will his team return to action with a victory at Stamford Bridge?

Meantime, as we all prepare for the Premier League to return, one of the most surprising revelations is that Bournemouth are 17th, yet to pick up a win. Last time out, the Cherries were rather meekly beaten 1-0 by Liverpool at Dean Court, rarely threatening the Reds' goal.
This was just the second time since 3 January that Bournemouth have lost a Premier League game, also beaten late on by Manchester City on the opening day, before a sequence of three successive draws. Marco Rose's team did win the club's first-ever European fixture, defeating Real Sociedad 2-1 in San Sebastián, but they now need Premier League points. This will be far from a straight-forward match for Chelsea, but will their quality see them to victory?
Chelsea team news

None of Reece James, Moisés Caicedo, Cole Palmer nor João Pedro went away on international duty, making them doubts for this one. Jordan Henderson alongside Valentín Barco was the Blues' starting midfield duo at Brentford, unlikely to see that again, while it'll be interesting to see if the Pedro Neto at right-wing-back experiment continues.
In a boost, Roméo Lavia featured in all four of Belgium's Nations League matches, twice starting against France, despite only having one cap beforehand, thereby hoping to start here too.
Bournemouth team news
Meantime, Marco Rose lost star midfield Alex Scott in the international window. During his full England debut in Rijeka last weekend, the 23 year old suffered a tendon injury, so will be sidelined for two months. Justin Kluivert , David Brooks and Eli Junior Kroupi are also out.
In goal, Đorđe Petrović will come up against his former side, while Adrien Truffert will be full of confidence, having earned his first two France caps, starting twice.
Predicted Line-ups
- Chelsea predicted lineup: Martínez; Fofana, Colwill, Lacroix; Gusto, Caicedo, Lavia, Chavarría; Palmer, Rogers, João Pedro.
- Bournemouth predicted lineup: Petrović; Smith, Hill, António Silva, Truffert; Cook, Adams, Chrstie; Rayan, Tavernier, Evanilson.
- Score prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Bournemouth.
