Chelsea welcome Brighton to Stamford Bridge for their first home Premier League match of the season, with the Blues looking to build on the momentum generated in their opening fixtures.
However, they face a Brighton side that has caused Chelsea plenty of problems in recent seasons and has become something of a bogey opponent.
The Seagulls have won each of the last three meetings, home and away, leaving Chelsea and Xabi Alonso with a clear objective: put an end to that run and start the new campaign with a statement victory at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea could welcome back Moisés Caicedo from injury, while Marco Palestra remains unavailable. As far as I’m aware, there are no other injury absentees in the squad, meaning Xabi Alonso could make just one or two changes to his starting XI.
The starting XI is expected to remain largely unchanged, with Wesley Fofana and Caicedo the most likely players to come back into the side after returning to full fitness and training.
Levi Colwill and Geovany Quenda both missed the matchday squad for Thursday’s 2-0 win over Luton, but there are reportedly “no issues” surrounding either player. Both were simply rested from a large squad and should be available for selection against Brighton.

Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, Stefanos Tzimas and Evan Ferguson are all long-term absentees for Brighton and will miss the trip to Stamford Bridge. Georginio Rutter and Jack Hinshelwood are also major doubts, leaving Fabian Hurzeler with a depleted squad to work with.
Despite Brighton's lengthy injury list, Hurzeler still has plenty of attacking quality at his disposal, with Pascal Gross likely to play a key role in providing creativity. The midfielder created four chances against Aston Villa and will be crucial to Brighton's hopes of causing Chelsea problems once again.
