Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur match preview

Can Chelsea continue their winning streak in the Women's Super League? Before the international break, Sonia Bompastor's team swatted aside West Ham 3-0, thanks to goals from Melvine Malard, Kieran Walsh and then Maika Hamano at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

This means that, since a frustrating 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on the opening day, the Blues have put together a sequence of four successive WSL wins, scoring 11 goals and conceding none at all during this sequence. As a result, Chelsea sit second, two points behind champions Manchester City, who are yet to drop any points at all thus far; the pair are scheduled to meet next month. Before then, will the Blues' winning streak continue in this London derby?

As for Tottenham Hotspur, many experts were tipping them to have a strong season and, largely, they have lived up to the hype. Martin Ho's team picked up ten points from their first four WSL matches, including demolishing Crystal Palace 7-0 at Selhurst and then Aston Villa 4-0 at Brisbane Road; Victoria Pelova bagging a brace in both.

However, last time out, Spurs suffered something of a serious reality check. Tottenham were steamrollered 6-1 by London City Lionesses at home, 3-0 down by half time, with the visitors mustering 21 shots, of which ten were on target. This underlines that the Lilywhites still have a long way to go to compete with the best in this division. Thus, a trip to Stamford Bridge is probably the last fixture they would have wanted.

Chelsea team news

Naomi Girma did not go away with the United States during the international break, hoping to be back involved followed a muscle injury. Lauren James meantime will return in attack, while Lexi Potter made her England debut as the Lionesses easily beat Greece at the King Power on Tuesday.

Tottenham Hotspur team news

Martin Ho meantime needs to lift his players, following their heavy defeat a fortnight ago. Victoria Pelova will be their main goal threat, having scored five across her last three WSL appearances, as well as a hat-trick when the Netherlands demolished Hungary 8-0 in FelcsĂșt last Friday.

Predicted Line-ups
