We are into the final week of the summer transfer window and there is still no clarity on the situation of both important exits and arrivals for Chelsea. The two players they have been most heavily been linked with in recent weeks are Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United.

But out of nowhere, reports have emerged in Spain today that an offer has been made for Fermin Lopez. One would have to imagine that he is being viewed as an alternative to Simons.

Could Chelsea have alternative options picked out for Garnacho as well, if that move does not work out? Well, recent reports seem to suggest that they do.

As reported by CaughtOffside, Chelsea view Ademola Lookman as a backup option if their attempt to sign Garnacho fails. Arsenal are also considering an approach and Manchester City could enter the race if Savinho leaves.

Lookman has been one of the best players in Serie A in recent years and scored 20 goals across all competitions last season. But right now, he seems intent on departing.

The same report goes on to state that Lookman has officially submitted a transfer request to the club. He has also erased all Atalanta-related content from his social media channels and relocated to London. So, the message is pretty clear.

Of course, Lookman has found most of his success at Atalanta while playing as a second striker or as an out-and-out striker. But one has to remember that for a large portion of his career, he was a winger. So, that is a role he can play, which is why Chelsea might be viewing him as a Garnacho alternative.

Also, the Nigerian international is not stranger to the English game. He has played for clubs like Everton, Fulham and Leicester City. He came through the youth ranks at Charlton Athletic and played youth football for England till U21 level.
