Chelsea are keeping an eye on Liam Delap as a potential January transfer window recruit. They would have been impressed with the Ipswich star last night.

Chelsea are always a force to be reckoned with in the January transfer window. They are big spenders and the London side has proven to be an attractive destination for incoming players.

Under Enzo Maresca in the January transfer window, this will be no different. The Italian coach has seen Chelsea head into the new year in the Premier League top four, so the prospect of playing in the Champions League next season is an exciting one.

Last night, Chelsea hit another roadblock in the Premier League, as they were beaten 2-0 away from home against Ipswich Town.

Chelsea want to sign Ipswich striker who humiliated them last night

According to a report from talkSPORT, Chelsea are keeping an eye on signing Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap. While the report was published before last night's game kicked off, it is fair to say that Delap gave Chelsea every reason to sign him.

Against Chelsea last night, Liam Delap stole the show. The 21-year-old netted his seventh Premier League goal of the season against the Blues. He also provided an assist for Omari Hutchinson's goal.

It is believed that Chelsea would like to sign a new striker to provide competition and backup to Nicolas Jackson, easing the goal-scoring burden which is placed on him. If Chelsea do not sign Liam Delap, they are also linked to the signing of Evan Ferguson from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Both strikers are proven in the Premier League, despite still being young (if I do say so myself). Delap has achieved an incredible start to the season and if the Tractor Boys do have any chance of staying up, it will be due to him. Therefore, Kieran McKenna's side will drive a hard bargain here.

Evan Ferguson, on the other hand, will have an easier shot at leaving Brighton this January. The Irish striker is out of favour at the Amex Stadium, despite being a breakout star over the last few seasons.

So, the Blues are keeping their options open. However, what can be said with close-to-certainty is that Chelsea are eyeing a new striker to sign when the window opens tomorrow.
