This weekend, Chelsea and Arsenal will meet at Stamford Bridge in what could turn out to be one of the most important games of this Premier League season. Mikel Arteta's side sit atop the table, six points ahead of the Blues. But Enzo Maresca's team are finding their form after a rocky start. They will be riding high following a win against Barcelona in midweek and if they can defeat their London rivals as well, people will have to start considering them as title contenders.
The two London clubs might find themselves competing for a player as well. And that is someone who was considered an integral part of Arsenal's team last season but is struggling for first-team minutes right now.
Myles Lewis-Skelly started 15 of Arsenal's last 23 games in the Premier League last season. In the Champions League, he was in the starting XI all four times against Real Madrid and PSG. But currently, he has slipped down the pecking order.
The youngster has yet to start a league game this season. And with Riccardo Calafiori being just 23, while Arsenal also have one of the best midfields in world football, it is hard to imagine how he will get back into the team unless there is an injury. Could this lead to an exit in the near future?
Chelsea want to sign one of Arsenal's most talented players
As reported by Mark Brus on The Daily Briefing (via CaughtOffside):
"Chelsea very much want to make their pitch to Lewis-Skelly, they’d love to bring him in and make him a key player, something that’s not guaranteed for him at Arsenal"
Over the years, we have seen plenty of players leave Chelsea for Arsenal. Names like Petr Cech, Willian, Jorginho, David Luiz, Kai Havertz, and Noni Madueke come to mind immediately. Could Lewis-Skelly head in the opposite direction?
Chelsea have a reputation for signing the best youngsters on the planet and Lewis-Skelly would certainly fall under that category. And the Blues are pretty good at developing them too. Just look at the trajectories of players like Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, Estevao and more.
