Chelsea will be delighted to welcome three injured stars back to training, with hopes that they could return to Premier League action against Sunderland this weekend.
Footage released across Chelsea's social media channels shows the three players' supporters will be desperate to see back in action sooner rather than later.
Emi Martinez has been pictured working in the gym and on the training pitch while wearing protective support around his jaw, raising hopes that he could be available for the trip to Sunderland.
The goalkeeper will be keen to return for Chelsea this weekend, particularly with the international break approaching and the opportunity to represent Argentina on the horizon. However, that may not be entirely in the Blues' interests, with the club likely to prefer giving him additional time to recover rather than risking an early return before international duty.
The return of Aarón Anselmino would also provide a major boost for Chelsea, offering valuable defensive cover given Maxence Lacroix's injury and Wesley Fofana's recent struggles for form.
However, the biggest news came towards the end of the footage and will delight Chelsea supporters. With the team lacking a cutting edge and conviction in attack, seeing Joao Pedro taking part in warm-ups and non-contact training alongside his teammates was particularly encouraging.
The striker has scored five goals in the Premier League, and Chelsea have certainly missed his presence during his spell on the sidelines. His absence has left the Blues lacking a focal point in attack and struggling to make a consistent impact in the final third.
Due back against Sunderland?
There is no confirmation yet on whether they will be fit to return to the starting XI against Sunderland on Sunday. More clarity on their availability should come during Xabi Alonso’s pre-match press conference, although the manager is not always forthcoming with details.
Emi Martinez is arguably the most likely of the trio to return, given that his jaw injury can be protected with a mask. However, Mike Penders has deputised extremely well, and risking Martinez against a struggling Sunderland side could be an unnecessary gamble.
Joao Pedro appears less likely to feature in the matchday squad, particularly as his expected return date was after the international break. Chelsea should be cautious and avoid taking any unnecessary risks with the striker's recovery.
