Despite spending over £250 million already this summer, Chelsea appear determined to bring in more players ahead of Xabi Alonso's first season in charge.
The Blues are preparing for an important campaign. Not only will it be Alonso's first managing in England, but after finishing 10th last season and missing out on European football, the club must have a solid campaign.
Alonso has already made significant signings, including bringing in Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for an eye-watering £117 million.
The 44-year-old's spending doesn't look like it's ended yet, though.
Chelsea interested in Myles Lewis-Skelly
According to Sky Sports News, Chelsea are seriously interested in Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly as they look to bring in solid reinforcements at the back.
The 19-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium in recent times with Mikel Arteta preferring Ricardo Calafiori at left-back.
And although Lewis-Skelly can play in midfield, with some many others in front, he may have to leave the Emirates to get the playing time his potential deserves.
The Blues, along with Manchester United, are long time admirers of the talented teenager. The Red Devils need a new left-back and are deciding between Lewis-Skelly and Newcastle United's Lewis Hall.
Why Arsenal don't want to sell Lewis-Skelly to Chelsea
The Blues, on the other hand, appear set on the Arsenal man, but face a significant problem.
Despite being open to letting him leave, the Gunners are not prepared to sell the teenager to a direct rival. Not only do arsenal and Chelsea hate each other, but there is a feeling both clubs will be in the mix for the UEFA Champions League qualification spots.
Even though the Gunners will be aiming to defend their Premier League title, Chelsea are expected to be hot on their heels, especially given their European exile.
If Alonso is to bring UEFA Champions League football back to Stamford Bridge, he'll need several quality and versatile players among his options. That's the exact profile of Lewis-Skelly.
Sadly though, Arsenal's fears Lewis-Skelly could become a key player under Alonso means they're unlikely to let the academy graduate move across town.
Since being promoted to the Gunners' first team in the summer of 2024, Lewis-Skelly has directly contributed to seven goals in 75 appearances in all competitions.
He's also won six senior international caps for England after being awarded his debut by current boss Thomas Tuchel.
