It is not every day you have to make a case for one of the Premier League’s best performers to be included in the England squad.
Yet that is exactly what Chelsea fans had to do for Cole Palmer, with his performances this season deserving recognition. Thomas Tuchel has now included the number 10 in his squad for the four upcoming fixtures.
England will face Spain and Croatia, while playing Czechia twice in the Nations League, giving Palmer a three-week spell with the national team during this international window.
The former Manchester City academy graduate has been in excellent form this year, scoring two goals and providing four assists in his four appearances. His influence has been vital to Chelsea, with the forward now registering the second-highest goal involvement in the first 100 games for the club.
Many felt Palmer should have been included in the World Cup squad, but the break appears to have done him the world of good, giving him valuable time to recover from his injuries. That can now be seen on the pitch, with Palmer able to regularly complete 90 minutes and make the kind of impact that was missing from his performances last year.

He replaces Noni Madueke in the 2026 World Cup squad, with the winger dropping out of the attacking positions due to his lack of regular first-team football at Arsenal.
Palmer will likely compete with Bukayo Saka for the right-sided role, offering a greater threat in central areas rather than providing the directness of a traditional winger.
Also included in the squad is Morgan Rogers, who has retained his place after featuring in the World Cup squad. There had been fitness concerns surrounding James ahead of tonight’s clash with Brentford, and his exclusion could mean the injury is more serious.
There is no place, however, for Jordan Henderson, who remains sidelined after suffering an injury at the tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada. Levi Colwill and Danny Welbeck have also been left out of the squad.
There’s also Chelsea interest in Alex Scott, who has been selected in the squad. Should he make his debut in one of the upcoming games, it could further increase his value and potentially drive up his price for Chelsea to buy.
