Tyrique George’s Versatility
Youngster Tyrique George played the full 90 minutes, starting as a right wing-back in the first half. Despite his efforts, he struggled in a tough opening period. However, in the second half, he was deployed as a forward.
Despite his inexperience, George worked tirelessly, pressing the Copenhagen defense. His assist for Chelsea’s second goal was a well-earned reward for his relentless effort. Unfortunately, he later suffered a hamstring issue. With Chelsea having already used all five substitutions, he had to push through and continue playing despite visible discomfort.
Taking an Advantage Back to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea remain the clear favorites to win the Conference League. While the performance in Copenhagen was far from their best, securing a first-leg lead keeps them in control of the tie. The win also marked a historic achievement, as Chelsea recorded seven consecutive victories in Europe for the first time in their history.
It was also Chelsea’s first away win in all competitions since early December when they defeated FC Astana in the Conference League. Since losing to Fulham at home in late December, the Blues have remained unbeaten in five consecutive matches at Stamford Bridge. On Thursday, backed by their home crowd, they will be confident of securing a spot in the final eight.
