It would be safe to say that Chelsea need to bring in some reinforcements. They have been able to discover some quality talents in recent times. But for the most part, their current roster is nowhere near good enough if they have aspirations of competing for the biggest trophies in football, which they must do after having spent more than a billion pounds since the change in ownership.
The midfield is actually one of Chelsea's stronger points at the moment. Sooner or later, they will need to do something about the Romeo Lavia situation though, as he continues to pick up constant injury problems and has barely played any consistent football since joining in the summer of 2023.
If Chelsea do decide to move on from Lavia, they would need to bring in another midfielder. Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace is someone they have been linked with.
It is believed that Crystal Palace could look for a transfer fee in the region of £100 million to part ways with Wharton. Not too many clubs might be willing or able to shell out that kind of figure on a defensive midfielder. So, some players might need to head in the opposite direction to make it work.
Crystal Palace eyeing Chelsea player in Adam Wharton swap deal
As reported by Aaron Ramiro, Trevoh Chalobah is being discussed internally at Crystal Palace as a potential makeweight in negotiations. Both clubs are actively in talks.
Of course, Chalobah had been on loan at Crystal Palace in the first half of the previous season. Ultimately, Chelsea found themselves in injury trouble and called him back in the middle of the campaign. Since then, he has remained part of the first-team picture.
That does not mean that Chalobah has been outstanding though. He has been a steady performer but most fans believe that the club need a better centre-back as starter.
