Crystal Palace vs Chelsea match preview

Can Chelsea continue their winning streak in the WSL? Last Sunday, despite the fact the score was 1-1 at the interval, the Blues eventually demolished Tottenham 6-2 at Stamford Bridge. Lauren James and Ellie Carpenter both bagged braces, before Sjoeke Nüsken and Maika Hamano were also on target.

As a result, Sonia Bompastor's team have now won five successive WSL matches, their sole dropped points coming against Aston Villa on the opening day. Chelsea take on Charlton and then Everton after this, determined to keep on winning before welcoming champions and league-leaders Manchester City to West London on 14 November. Thus, anything other than a comfortable away win would be a major surprise.

As for newly-promoted Crystal Palace, they are currently 11th in the table and, were they to still be there in May, that would be viewed as a massive success. Last weekend, Jo Potter's team were narrowly beaten 1-0 by West Ham in Sutton, the only goal coming after half an hour.

The Eagles are now without a win in five although, on the flip side, that was just their second defeat of the campaign. Palace were previously demolished 7-0 by Spurs at Selhurst, a match skewed by Fūka Tsunoda's seventh minute red card, and are winless since the opening weekend, albeit have held Arsenal to a famous goalless draw. Nevertheless, Chelsea should cruise to victory at Gander Green Lane.

Crystal Palace team news

Jo Potter made ten changes for Wednesday's League Cup defeat at Southampton, Jamie-Lee Napier the only player to keep her place, but will largely revert to last weekend's lineup here. Beth England will lead the attack against her former club, while veteran goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin should be prepared for a busy afternoon.

Chelsea team news

Sonia Bompastor has had a rare free week on the training ground, so expect minimal changes to her XI. Naomi Girma remains sidelined, while Sjoeke Nüsken and Maika Hamano will be hoping to return to the XI, after their goals off the bench against Tottenham.

Predicted Line-ups

  • Crystal Palace predicted lineup: Peyraud-Magnin; Napier, Bartrip, Everett, Goldie; Enge, Tsunoda, O'Brien, Lloyd-Smith; Larkin, England.
  • Chelsea predicted lineup: Hampton; Carpenter, Bronze, Buurman, McCabe; Walsh, Potter, Kaptein; James, Thompson, Malard.

  • Score prediction: Crystal Palace 0-3 Chelsea.
