Injuries have arguably been Chelsea's biggest problem this season. Of course, their performances have left a lot to be desired but when you have players like Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and multiple others out on the sidelines, any side would struggle. So, one can only hope that key players end up returning to action as soon as possible.

The position that has been most affected by these injuries is centre-back. Of course, Colwill is Chelsea's best defender there but he might be out of the entirety of the campaign. But he is not the only absentee at the back.

Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile remain as injury-prone as ever. Tosin Adarabioyo is out at the moment as well. And just when it had looked like a window of opportunity had opened up for Josh Acheampong, he ended up picking up an issue and had to be subbed off against Liverpool.

There is some positive news regarding some of the more recent injury problems though. Both Badiashile and Acheampong suffered injuries against Liverpool but they are not serious ones. The extent is not clear but it looks like they could be back soon.

While speaking on The Athletic's YouTube channel, David Ornstein said regarding Badiashile and Acheampong's injury situation:

"From what we’re hearing initially, Badiashile and Acheampong are not severe injuries, and there’s an international break now. There’s another one coming up in November. I don’t know the the durations but I I don’t think they’re bad ones. So, that’s a positive for Chelsea fans."

Chalobah is set to return from suspension as well. And Jorrel Hato did pretty well when he came on against Liverpool. So, all things considered, while the situation is far from ideal, Maresca will at least have a pick options to pick his centre-back pairing from in the next game.

Unfortunately, that might remain the case for a while. There have been conflicting reports about whether the club will go out and sign a centre-back in the upcoming January transfer window or not. Fans would like to see it happen for sure. But as we have learned over the past few years, this ownership looks do things their own way in the market, whether it be right or wrong.
