Chelsea's season hangs in the balance after back-to-back defeats have put them on the verge of missing out in two competitions.Â
Not only are the Blues facing elimination from the Champions League after losing 5-2 in the Last 16 first-leg away to PSG, but beaten 1-0 by Newcastle on the weekend means they're outsiders to qualify for the competition next season.Â
Consequently, Liam Rosenior has it all to do and potentially less than 10 games to do it in.Â
However, fans have been handed some good news. Regardless of how the side does between now and the end of the campaign, Chelsea's ownership are still expected to invest heavily in the summer window.Â
David Ornstein expecting Chelsea to have another busy summer transfer window
The Blues have spent upwards of £1 billion on signings since BlueCo took over the club nearly four years ago.Â
The likes of Enzo Fernandez (£106.8 million) and Moises Caicedo (£115 million) have spearheaded a huge investment period, and according to David Ornstein, the club's wealthy US owners don't plan on slowing down yet.Â
Speaking to NBC over the weekend, via CFC Daily, Ornstein, arguably football's most reliable journalist, claimed Chelsea's sporting department are talready targeting players for nearly every area of the pitch.
"You will see periphery sales that I’m sure will raise big money again and they WANT to invest in the summer. In attack, in midfield, in defence."
Interestingly, despite wanting multiple new additions, talk of bringing in a player in one of their most needed roles has so far been quiet.Â
Chelsea not yet prioritising new goalkeeper
Although Chelsea have the biggest squad in Europe, their backline is undoubtedly their weakest area.Â
Robert Sanchez arrived from Brighton three years ago but has failed to have the sort of effect required to take the side to the next level. The same can be said for Djordje Petrovic.
Despite the team's frailties in goal, Ornstein feels a new number one is far from a priority as things stand though.Â
"I’m not hearing suggestions that they will actually do so in the goalkeeping department as things stand."
While fans may not enjoy hearing the club aren't targeting a new goalkeeper, it's important to remember that transfer plans can change in the blink of an eye, and with the window not set to open for another few months, there is still a good chance Rosenior ends up with a new man in between the sticks next season.Â
