In recent weeks, quite a few players have been the subject of transfer rumours regarding a possible move to Chelsea. And today early morning, a fresh update has arrived on this, which the London club's fans are surely going to like. It looks like the Blues have agreed their next signing of the summer transfer window.

Earlier, Fabrizio Romano had reported that Chelsea and Ajax had made progress in their negotiations for Jorrel Hato on Monday and that the agreement was in its final steps. The Italian journalist had further stated that the player was ready to sign a long-term deal with the Blues, with the two clubs close to a full agreement.

Now, according to Nicolo Schira, it is a done deal and confirmed. Hato to Chelsea from Ajax for €50m. It is set to be a contract until 2033. The Blues were already at work on this transfer from May. The player has always been a main target for Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea initially were reported to have bid €40m, but the Amsterdam club turned down the offer. However, it seems that the negotiations went well, as the deal is believed to have been finalised for €50m. The defender has long been admired by the Blues, who now look set to sign him despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Hato made his professional debut for Ajax at the age of 16 and has already made 111 appearances for the Dutch giants. He has also featured six times for the Netherlands. Earlier this summer, he even captained their U21 team during the EUROs.

Chelsea clearly needed a backup for Marc Cucurella in the squad. The Spaniard was their most-used player last season. On top of that, Renato Veiga seems set to leave. Hato can now fill that void. However, the Dutch international becomes a versatile option for the team due to his ability to play at both left-back and centre-back.

It will be interesting to see how he fits in with the team and how Maresca will utilise this young talent. Who knows? We might even see a revamped backline after his arrival.
