Chelsea's need to add to their striker ranks is not unknown. The club stuck with Nicolas Jackson this season but that decision has not exactly done wonders. The Senegal international showed promising signs early on in the campaign but his form completely faded away later on. Ultimately, he finished with 10 Premier League goals, four fewer than last time. This was no improvement.
Naturally, calls have been made for Chelsea to sign a reliable and proven striker this summer. Names like Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres have been linked with the club.
But if their recent transfer strategy is anything to go by, it is more likely that they will go after potential over proven quality. Hugo Ekitike has been linked with Chelsea while a move for Emanuel Emegha, currently at Strasbourg, is believed to be getting close.
As reported by L'Equipe, the plan is for Emegha to spend another season at Strasbourg before joining Chelsea in 2026. A pre-contract has been submitted to him, and in the event of a signing, which is very likely, the player would commit to BlueCo until June 2031.
Dutch striker 'very likely' to join Chelsea after offer made
With Emegha scoring 14 Ligue 1 goals this season for Strasbourg, it is not hard to see why Chelsea want him. He is already under the BlueCo umbrella, which makes things a lot easier.
That being said, let's look past the numbers for a bit. What does the eye test say about the 22-year-old Dutch striker?
This is where we are not exactly convinced that Emegha is someone capable of leading the line for Chelsea. Everything seems a bit too unpolished at the moment. There is not enough fluidity. While that can work for some, in our opinion, it is hard to claim that he is an upgrade on Jackson right now.
