Chelsea have had a somewhat shaky season so far. They have definitely had good results. The wins over Liverpool and Barcelona, as well as the draw vs Arsenal, despite going down to 10-men in the first half itself. There are even positives to take from their comeback 2-2 away draw in Newcastle. But at the same time, one cannot ignore the numerous stumbles over the course of the campaign either.
This Chelsea side is not ready to challenge for the title at the moment. They have a lot of growing up to do. And they will have done well if they can stop the juggernaut that Aston Villa appear to be at the moment.
If Aston Villa can keep up their form, they might very well end up challenging for the title come the end of the season. Now, it is up to Chelsea to stop them this weekend.
There is some positive news for Chelsea heading into that game. Both Estevao and Liam Delap are set to be fit for the occasion. As reported by Football Talk, Enzo Maresca said:
"He’s (Estevao) back. He’s back; he’s available for Saturday, him and also Liam Delap."
Enzo Maresca confirms brilliant Chelsea news for Aston Villa game
Estevao has been one of Chelsea's best performers so far this season. He just has a bit about his game that most modern wingers don't. The ability to keep the opposition defence on their toes whenever he is on the ball. That is impressive for someone who is just 18 years of age and has not even had half-a-season in Europe.
While Estevao's return is a major boost for Chelsea, one can only wonder what version of Delap we will get. Not only has the striker proven to be injury-prone since his arrival, he has not done much of note when he has been on the pitch.
Delap has scored just twice in 17 appearances for Chelsea. Not even once in the Premier League. That is not someone they can rely on to lead the line for them. Back when he was signed, the £30 million fee was touted to be a bargain. But now, it feels like the Blues might have overpaid and by a lot.
