The summer transfer window is just around the corner, and as usual, there are transfer rumours everywhere. Chelsea are pretty much always one of the most active teams in world football when it comes to incomings and outgoings. Naturally, their name has been in the headlines quite a lot in recent weeks, even with a lot left to play for this season.
Chelsea have seemingly put an end to one of the rumours surrounding its star midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who was recently linked with Real Madrid. They've made it clear that he's not available.
According to recent reports in Spain, Fernandez had received an offer from Real Madrid. Los Blancos are expected to be keen to bolster their midfield as they get ready for a rebuild in the middle of the park under new manager Xabi Alonso, who will take over from Carlo Ancelotti.
Following a disappointing season, Real Madrid have made it a priority to revamp their midfield. There is a clear need for a new midfield maestro after Toni Kroos's departure last summer, and now, Luka Modric is also set to leave at the end of this season.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez decision amid Real Madrid links
On the other hand, Chelsea seem unfazed by all of the rumours surrounding Fernandez. The Argentine has shown clear improvement since the arrival of Enzo Maresca as manager. He has scored 7 goals and provided 13 assists from central midfield this season, often captaining the team as well.
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea insist on their plans to keep Fernandez despite links with Real Madrid. They have no intention to transfer him. He’s considered a key part of the long-term project and also a leader in the dressing room.
In addition to Fernandez, there are several other players on Real Madrid's radar, including Liverpool's Alexis MacAllister and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Larsson. However, the club are also set to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen.
Chelsea have plenty of assurance over Fernandez's long-term future because he is settled in London, has a contract that expires in 2032, and has shown no signs of wanting to leave. And at the end of the day, Real Madrid would struggle to meet whatever transfer fee the Blues would want out of his exit.
