2. Maresca’s questionable decisions leave fans frustrated again

On Thursday, Enzo Maresca opted to start a relatively strong starting XI. It felt so unnecessary because Chelsea had a 3-0 advantage from the first leg against a side from a league where no team has ever won in England. Yet despite the strength, Chelsea lost after a poor and disappointing performance.

The second-leg Conference League quarter-final match was the best opportunity for many of the players to get back into their best form. Yet it may have only further damaged whatever bit of confidence they had. Nevertheless, any team Maresca picks won’t give fans much confidence that they can win the tie.

On Thursday, for the umpteenth time, Chelsea had three right-backs on the pitch at the same time. Yet two of them were mostly in midfield, while the other was at left-back. So once again, it can be expected that a center-back will be used at right-back like how it was against Ipswich Town last Sunday in the Premier League. Even though it has not worked, Maresca continues to persist with tactical decisions that have repeatedly failed to deliver results.
